Kokrajhar: In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare delivery in remote riverine regions, the Assam Government has launched a Boat Ambulance Service for Kokrajhar district to ensure faster access to emergency medical care for people living in inaccessible areas.

Announcing the initiative, Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal said the service has been introduced to bridge the healthcare gap in riverine communities, where transportation challenges often delay access to hospitals during medical emergencies.

The boat ambulance is expected to provide timely medical transportation for pregnant women, children, senior citizens and critically ill patients, enabling them to reach healthcare facilities more quickly. The initiative is aimed at improving emergency response and reducing the risks associated with delayed treatment in flood-prone and water-bound areas.

The Minister acknowledged the contribution of NTPC Limited, which has supported the project under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. He thanked the public sector undertaking for partnering in an initiative that is expected to benefit some of the district’s most vulnerable communities.

Officials said the introduction of the boat ambulance reflects the government’s continued efforts to make essential healthcare services accessible to people living in geographically isolated regions. The service is expected to play a vital role during emergencies, particularly in areas where waterways serve as the primary mode of transportation.

The launch of the boat ambulance adds to the state’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and ensure that emergency medical services reach every section of the population, regardless of geographical constraints.
