Gauhati University is hosting a DHR-sponsored Capacity Building Workshop

Guwahati: The Department of Zoology at Gauhati University is hosting a DHR-sponsored capacity-building workshop focused on translational research in metabolic diseases, bringing together academic and research experts to strengthen practical skills in molecular techniques and bioinformatics.

The workshop, titled “Translational Research in Metabolic Diseases: Integrating PCR, qPCR-Based Molecular Techniques and Bioinformatics Approaches,” focuses on the application of modern molecular and computational methods in metabolic disease research.

The programme is being supported by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Government of India, and aims to provide participants with practical exposure to PCR, quantitative PCR (qPCR)-based molecular techniques and bioinformatics approaches.

The inaugural session features several senior academics and research leaders from Gauhati University and the region. They include Prof. Kumananda Tayung, Dean of Science, Gauhati University; Prof. Dandadhar Sarma, Head of the Department of Zoology, Gauhati University; Prof. Bhaben Tanti, Director, Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Gauhati University; Prof. Dhrubajyoti Saharia, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Gauhati University; and Prof. Probodh Borah, Former Director of Research, Assam Veterinary and Fishery University.

The workshop is being coordinated by Dr. Manas Das, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, Gauhati University.

The programme reflects the growing importance of interdisciplinary approaches in biomedical research, where laboratory-based molecular techniques are combined with computational tools to investigate disease mechanisms and support the development of research-based solutions.

Through hands-on training and academic interaction, the workshop is expected to enhance participants’ understanding of PCR and qPCR technologies while introducing them to bioinformatics approaches that can complement experimental research in metabolic diseases.

The initiative also highlights Gauhati University’s continued efforts to promote research capacity, scientific training and collaboration in emerging areas of life sciences and biomedical research.
