Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that 20 alleged illegal Bangladeshi nationals were “pushed back” across the international border during an overnight operation, reiterating the Assam government’s tough stance against infiltration.

In a strongly worded post on X, the Chief Minister wrote, “लातों के भूत बातों से नहीं मानते,” before stating that the Assam government continues to act firmly against infiltrators who do not leave voluntarily.

“We continuously remind ourselves of this prophetic line when we expel infiltrators from Assam who don’t leave themselves,” Sarma posted on the social media platform.

Highlighting the latest operation, he added, “For instance these 20 illegal Bangladeshis who were pushed back last night. Assam will fight, pushbacks will continue.”

The statement comes amid renewed political focus on illegal immigration and border security in Assam, an issue that has remained highly sensitive in the northeastern state for decades. Successive governments in Assam have emphasized the identification, detention, and deportation of undocumented migrants, particularly those allegedly entering from Bangladesh.

The Chief Minister’s remarks indicate that the state government intends to continue intensified enforcement measures against illegal infiltration. However, officials have not yet released detailed information regarding the identities of the individuals involved, the exact locations of the operation, or the process followed during the alleged pushback.

The development has once again brought the issue of border management and illegal migration into political discussion across Assam, where concerns over demographic changes and national security have often shaped public discourse and electoral politics.

Security agencies and border authorities are expected to continue surveillance and coordinated operations along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the coming days, as the state government maintains its hardline position on infiltration.
