Silchar, June 30: Assam Police have seized 10,000 Yaba tablets valued at approximately ₹1 crore during an intelligence-based operation in Cachar district, dealing another major blow to the illegal narcotics trade in the state.

The development was announced by Himanta Biswa Sarma through a post on X, where he stated that the operation took place just 24 hours after another significant drug seizure, highlighting the state’s continued crackdown on narcotics trafficking.

According to the Chief Minister, the operation was carried out by the Cachar Police based on specific intelligence inputs. During the raid, police recovered 10,000 Yaba tablets from a clandestine unit that was operating under the guise of a furniture shop.

One person was apprehended in connection with the seizure. The identity of the accused has not yet been officially disclosed, and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the narcotics and identify other individuals involved in the network.

Yaba, a prohibited psychotropic drug containing methamphetamine and caffeine, is widely trafficked across the region and poses a significant threat to public health and law enforcement. The recovered consignment is estimated to have a market value of around ₹1 crore.

Praising the successful operation, Chief Minister Sarma said the back-to-back seizures demonstrate that Assam Police remains relentless in its fight against drug trafficking. He reiterated that law enforcement agencies are continuing intelligence-led operations to dismantle narcotics networks operating across the state.

The latest seizure forms part of Assam’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, under which police and other enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance, raids and coordinated operations against drug smugglers and organised trafficking syndicates.
