Silchar, April 25: In a major crackdown on narcotics and illegal arms trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with Cachar Police and the Field Intelligence Team, successfully busted a narco-arms module in Bhaskhandi area of Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district.
According to an official statement shared by the Assam Rifles on X, the operation was launched based on precise intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics and illegal weapons in the region. Acting swiftly on the information, security personnel conducted a targeted operation in Bhaskhandi and intercepted the suspected module.
During the operation, the joint team recovered a pistol along with ammunition and a scooty allegedly used for transporting narcotics. Officials stated that the narcotics were concealed inside soap cases in an attempt to evade detection.
The recovered contraband weighed approximately 377.4 grams, out of which around 108 grams tested positive during preliminary examination. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics has been assessed at nearly ₹64 lakh.
One individual was apprehended during the operation. The identity of the accused has not yet been officially disclosed by authorities.
The seized arms, narcotics, vehicle, and the apprehended individual were later handed over to Cachar Police for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Security agencies have intensified anti-narcotics operations across Assam and other northeastern states in recent months to curb the growing menace of drug trafficking and illegal arms networks. Officials said the latest operation highlights the continued coordination between security forces and police agencies in dismantling organized criminal modules operating in the region.
The Assam Rifles reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the Northeast and preventing the spread of narcotics and illegal weapons through sustained intelligence-based operations.
