Guwahati, Assam: In a bid to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the upcoming NEET-UG examination, the Guwahati Police Commissionerate has imposed prohibitory measures around all examination centres in the city ahead of the test scheduled for June 21.

The order, issued on Tuesday by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Nirupam Hazarika under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, prohibits unauthorized access within a 100-metre radius of all 15 NEET-UG examination centres located under the Commissionerate’s jurisdiction.

According to police officials, the restrictions have been introduced to safeguard the integrity of the examination process and prevent any attempts at malpractice or disruption. Authorities noted that previous examinations had witnessed efforts by certain individuals to misuse social media and internet-based platforms to facilitate unfair practices, while outsiders had also attempted to interfere with examination activities.

Under the directive, only candidates possessing valid admit cards, examination staff, police personnel on duty and other authorized government or examination officials will be permitted entry into the restricted zones surrounding the centres.

The prohibitory order will remain effective throughout the examination day on June 21. Police have cautioned that any violation of the order will invite legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The NEET-UG examination in Guwahati will be held at 15 designated centres, including educational institutions such as Cotton University, Handique Girls’ College, B. Barooah College, Guwahati College, Guwahati Commerce College, Arya Vidyapeeth College, KC Das Commerce College and several Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Officials have urged students, guardians and the public to cooperate with the restrictions to help ensure a peaceful, transparent and hassle-free examination process.
