A major drug trafficking attempt was foiled by the Assam Rifles in Mizoram after a large quantity of methamphetamine tablets was seized during a joint operation with the Zokhawthar Police.
According to officials, the operation was carried out on May 22, 2026, in the General Area of Vengsang, Zokhawthar, located in Champhai district of Mizoram. Security personnel intercepted a Toyota Glanza suspected to be involved in smuggling activities.
During the search operation, the team recovered 2.201 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately ₹6.60 crore in the international market. Two individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling network were apprehended at the spot.
The recovered narcotics, the vehicle used in the operation, and the arrested individuals were handed over to Zokhawthar Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The successful operation highlights the continued efforts of Assam Rifles and local police authorities to combat drug trafficking along the Indo-Myanmar border region.
