A serious outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Upper Assam has led authorities to initiate extensive containment efforts after Ouguri village, located under Rupai Siding in the Doomdooma Development Block of Tinsukia district, was identified as the centre of the infection.
Based on assessments and reports from the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, the district administration has enforced emergency protocols in line with the National Action Plan for the Control, Containment and Eradication of African Swine Fever. The measures are aimed at preventing the highly contagious disease from spreading to nearby areas.
As part of the containment strategy, a one-kilometre area surrounding Ouguri village has been declared an infected zone, while locations within a 10-kilometre radius have been brought under strict surveillance. Veterinary officials have been deployed to closely monitor the situation and oversee preventive actions.
Authorities have also launched a culling drive within the infected zone, scheduled to take place from June 9 to June 11. In addition, all pork and pork-related product shops across the Doomdooma co-district have been ordered to remain closed for 30 days or until further notice.
To strengthen disease control efforts, the movement of pigs and pork products into or out of the affected region has been banned. The sale of pork at markets, retail outlets and other commercial establishments throughout the co-district has also been suspended until the situation improves.
