Himanta Biswa Sarma has been elected as the leader of the NDA Legislature Party in Assam, paving the way for him to lead the state government for a second consecutive term.
The announcement came following a meeting of the NDA legislative party held at the BJP state office in the presence of BJP national president J. P. Nadda and co-observer Nayab Singh Saini.
Sharing details on X, Assam minister Ranoj Pegu said the meeting was attended by Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, BJP state in-charge Harish Dwivedi, organizational leaders, newly elected NDA MLAs and alliance representatives.
Following his election as NDA Legislature Party leader, Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reposing faith in him to continue serving Assam as “Mukhya Sewak” for a second term.
He also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP leader Nitin Nabin for their guidance and support. Sarma further expressed gratitude to NDA alliance partners, including Bharatiya Janata Party, Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front, for electing him as the leader of the alliance legislature party.
In another post, Sarma stated that the BJP remains committed to pro-people governance and legislation aimed at unlocking Assam’s full potential. He also informed that he met Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and formally staked claim to form the next government in the state under the banner of “NDA 3.0”.
Sarma said he looks forward to continuing the development journey initiated by the BJP-led government in Assam since 2016 with the blessings of Maa Kamakhya and support from the people of the state.
