Justice Ranjan Gogoi sworn in as 46th Chief Justice of India

New Delhi: At a ceremony held today October 3, 2018,  in the Durbar Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Shri Justice Ranjan Gogoi was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India.  He took and subscribed to the oath of office before the President.

Ranjan Gogoi is the first Chief Justice from the North Eastern Region of the country.

Ranjan Gogoi son of Keshab Gogoi, who was the Chief Minister of Assam in 1982. Ranjan Gogoi was born on November 18, 1954.

Justice Gogoi started his career as a Permanent Judge of the Gauhati High Court in February 2001. He went on to be transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2010 and was appointed Chief Justice there in 2011. He came to the Supreme Court as a judge on April 23, 2012.
