Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday inaugurated the newly relocated 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC at Cherangre in Tura, highlighting the importance of expanding opportunities for youth in the Garo Hills region.

Sharing the update on X, the Chief Minister said the expansion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) presence in Garo Hills would open new avenues for young people and help nurture leadership and discipline among the youth of Meghalaya.

Sangma stated that the NCC has consistently played a significant role in shaping qualities such as leadership, patriotism, resilience, and discipline among students and young citizens. According to him, these values not only strengthen individuals but also contribute towards building a stronger and more responsible society.

The Chief Minister said the state government remains committed to empowering the youth through initiatives such as Meghalaya’s Youth & Sports Policy and by strengthening institutions like the NCC. He added that such efforts are aimed at ensuring every young person in the state receives the platform and support needed to dream, grow, and succeed.

During the inauguration programme, Sangma expressed confidence in the potential of Meghalaya’s youth, saying they are “second to none” and capable of excelling at both national and global levels when provided with the right opportunities.

He further said the government’s focus remains on creating an environment where young people can aspire for bigger goals and achieve success in different fields, including education, sports, leadership, and public service.

The relocation and strengthening of the 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC at Cherangre is expected to improve access to NCC activities for students and youths from the Garo Hills region, while also encouraging greater participation in leadership training, social service, and national integration programmes.

The event was attended by NCC officials, local leaders, students, and members of the public, marking another step in the Meghalaya government’s broader push towards youth development and capacity building across the state.
