Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited the under-development Zubeen Kshetra to review the ongoing construction and beautification work dedicated to Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg. During the visit, the Chief Minister described Zubeen as an “evergreen” personality who continues to live in the hearts of the people of Assam.
Sharing his thoughts on X, Sarma wrote, “Zubeen was, is, and will always remain my favourite,” while paying tribute to the celebrated singer. He said the development of Zubeen Kshetra is aimed at honouring the enduring legacy and contribution of Zubeen Garg to Assamese music, culture, and society.
The Chief Minister inspected the progress of the infrastructure and beautification work at the site and stated that the project would stand as a fitting tribute to one of Assam’s most beloved cultural figures. According to Sarma, Zubeen Garg is not merely a singer but an integral part of Assam’s identity whose influence cuts across generations.
Addressing reporters during the visit, the Chief Minister reiterated his stand that “there should be no politics in the name of Zubeen.” He said he deliberately chose to visit the site only after the election period had ended to ensure the tribute remained free from political controversy.
Sarma further said that for the people of Assam, Zubeen Garg is not a political subject but an emotion deeply connected to the cultural soul of the state. He added that the development of Zubeen Kshetra reflects the immense love and admiration people continue to hold for the singer, whose songs have inspired millions over the years.
The visit has once again highlighted the significance of Zubeen Garg’s contribution to Assamese music and culture, with the state government aiming to preserve and celebrate his legacy through the dedicated cultural space.
